5 Ways to Prevent and Treat Aging Skin

Fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots… aging skin is part of the package when you get older, and it should be a mark of pride that you’re growing older and wiser, and fully embracing life’s adventures. But if you’re not interested in succumbing to age-related skin changes, you don’t have to! There are plenty of subtle lifestyle shifts and beauty products that can prevent, and even reverse, seasoned skin:

Kick up the collagen

Collagen is an abundant protein found in the body’s connective tissues, skin and bones. It plays a major role in joint health and skin elasticity, but as you get older your existing collagen breaks down and the body struggles to produce more. The Revitalizing Algae Clay Mask by Bl’eau helps to activate collagen production with a rich collection of vitamins and mineral salts that collectively work to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Use the mask once or twice a week, alongside your daily supplement intake, and visible results will follow.

Amp up the antioxidants

It’s never too early to start protecting, preventing and correcting age-related skincare concerns. Make it a priority to introduce antioxidants into your daily skincare – they can slow the aging process by shielding you against harmful free radicals, including UV rays and pollution. You can use a vitamin C serum –vitamin C is packed with antioxidants – but, if you’re applying it in the morning, be sure to wear on sunscreen as it can increase skin sensitivity. Many beauties don’t know that you can also reap the benefits of vitamin C from masks. Bl’eau’s Illuminating Seaweed Clay Mask contains acai extract, whose powerful punch of vitamin C evens skin tone and promotes a radiant complexion. Apply at night, and wake up to brighter, healthier-looking skin.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

One of the most effective ways to keep aging skin looking young is to exfoliate consistently. When our skin gets older, the natural exfoliation process slows, leading to a buildup of dead skin cells. By gently removing that layer of buildup, exfoliators reveal the smooth, clear skin beneath, while also softening fine lines and wrinkles.  Bl’eau’s masks are ideal exfoliators: each contains Canadian Glacial Oceanic Clay, a purifying ingredient sourced from the Pacific Ocean that boasts more than 60 minerals, micronutrients and rare elements that naturally remove dead skin cells, promote blood circulation and regenerate damaged skin. Try the Glacial Oceanic Clay Mask, which is a great exfoliator, with hydrating organic ingredients, further rehydrates the skin, strengthens the skin barrier, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Mask once or twice a week to see results and maintain your glow.

Tighten and tone

When you were a teenager, toners were probably harsh astringents that stripped the skin of every last drop of oil. Today’s toners know better – they keep skin hydrated, balance pH levels and direct all sorts of antioxidants deep into skin cells. The Glacial Mineral Toner, made with Canadian Glacial Oceanic Mineral Water – pure liquid extracted from Canadian Glacial Oceanic Clay – is lightweight and quick-absorbing, improves suppleness and natural elasticity, and protects against free radicals. It also contains red maple bark, which is rich in collagen and elastin, as well as sugar maple extract and sodium PCA. Apply after cleansing, and feel free to re-apply throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and dewy.

Mix up your moisturizer

When you were younger, you might have slapped any old moisturizer on your skin and called it a night (and that’s when you actually remembered to moisturize). Aging skin requires a little more love, since it produces fewer natural oils and sees a breakdown of elastin and collagen fibers. Introduce moisturizers into your routine that contain ultra-hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, and antioxidant-rich elements like vitamin E. Bl’eau’s Hydrating Glacial Moisturizing Cream includes both, as well as Canadian Glacial Oceanic Mineral Water, whose skin-nourishing sea minerals promote healthy skin renewal and intense hydration. Use every morning and night, and whenever your skin feels dry or tight.
